Crowne Plaza Pelican Waters Golf Resort & Spa (formerly Ramada Pelican Waters) was awarded the Sunshine Coast MBA 2005 Housing and Construction Award for both Tourism and Hospitality Facilities over $20 million and the overall winner of the Sunshine Coast MBA 2006 Housing and Construction Project of the Year Award.

The project’s large scale construction was undertaken in staged handovers due to multiple classifications and required up to 190 personnel on site each day. This saw the project’s capital expenditure consistently greater than $3.5 million per month.

Architectural highlights of the building included a water feature that flows from the external building entrance through the foyer to an expansive lagoon pool, coloured glass curtain walls and backlit marble in the resort’s foyer.

To accelerate the project’s progress, precast concrete was used for internal and external load bearing walls and slate columns and an external temporary screen system was used in lieu of conventional perimeter scaffold systems.

The latest technology in ITAV Communications and Security Systems was installed to fully integrate the entire building and allow for future expansions.

Water saving techniques such as stormwater harvesting and on-site reuse system for landscaping irrigation were also utilised.

In addition to the main building construction, RCQ was also appointed to provide the hotel with all its Furniture Fixtures and Equipment (FFE) and Operating Supplies and Equipment (OSE) to accommodate the letting pool apartments and common areas, at a cost of approximately $2.5 million.
